Excellent Binding Action | Enhances Green Strength: In ceramic bodies (particularly in slip casting and press forming), the polymer chains of CMC can bridge ceramic particles, forming a strong film that binds the powder particles together. This significantly increases the mechanical strength of the dried green body, preventing breakage, chipping, and other damage during handling, trimming, and glazing.

Good Suspension Stability | Prevents Sedimentation and Stratification: Ceramic slurries (especially glaze slips) are suspension systems of solid particles in water. CMC increases the viscosity of the aqueous phase and adsorbs onto particle surfaces, forming a protective layer that creates a powerful steric hindrance effect. This effectively prevents particles from settling and forming hard sediments due to gravity, keeping the slurry uniformly stable for subsequent processing.

Significant Thickening Effect | Modifies Rheology: CMC can greatly increase the viscosity of aqueous solutions.
